New photographs of Uganda’s First Lady, Janet Museveni, have attracted widespread attention after showing her appearing healthy and in good spirits alongside members of her family. The photographs were shared by her daughter, Natasha Museveni Karugire, and show Janet Museveni posing with her daughters Natasha and Diana Kyaremera. Natasha accompanied the post with a message thanking God, prompting an outpouring of congratulatory and prayerful messages from members of the public and government officials. Among those who reacted was Junior Minister for Local Government, Justine Nameere, who expressed her happiness at seeing the First Lady looking well. Nameere thanked God for what she described as Janet Museveni’s recovery and credited her with consistently praying for the people of Uganda. The latest images come after months of public concern over Janet Museveni’s health and her reduced presence at public functions. President Yoweri Museveni previously disclosed in June that his wife had experienced a serious health incident earlier in the year. In a birthday message, the President said Janet had suffered what he described as an “attack on the life of Maama” on March 21. He credited medical care and prayers for helping her through the difficult period. The exact nature of her illness was not publicly disclosed. Since then, the First Lady has largely stayed away from major public engagements, leading to increased public interest in her wellbeing. The recent family photographs have therefore been welcomed by supporters and government officials as an encouraging sign of her continued recovery. Janet Museveni is also expected to make a significant public appearance later this month during the consecration of her daughter, Patience Rwabwogo, who is scheduled to be consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop of Covenant Nations Churches in Uganda and beyond on August 23, 2026. The ceremony will also mark the 20th anniversary celebrations of Covenant Nations Church, with President Yoweri Museveni and Janet Museveni listed among the guests of honour. For many Ugandans who have followed news about the First Lady’s health in recent months, the latest photographs have brought renewed optimism and relief, with many continuing to wish her a full recovery.
