Omulugwala

Song description

“Omulugwala” by Sir Mathias Walukagga tells the story of a woman he sees as different from the city girls he describes as having bad manners. He is drawn to her character and the way she carries herself, which makes her stand out in his eyes.

The title comes from her background. She belongs to the Balugwala tribe, so Walukagga refers to her as “Omulugwala,” turning her identity into the central idea of the song.

Performed in the traditional Kadongo Kamu style, the song combines storytelling with social observation, using a woman he admires to contrast rural character and the behaviour he associates with some city women.
